What if God is Real?

Updated: Aug 6

Hey you. I’ve got something to tell you. Whatever it is you’re dealing with right now—whether you’re mad, frustrated, your job sucks, or you’re in a fight with your boyfriend—pause. Because in the big picture? It’s probably not that important.

I mean, honestly, we’re all going to die anyway. Who cares if your boss didn’t like your presentation—you’re gonna die someday. Oh, your boyfriend forgot your birthday? Well, at least you still have a birthday, because one day, you won’t. Oh, you cracked your iPhone screen and can’t afford a new one? …No comment.

Here’s the deal: we spend so much time and energy on things that are honestly trivial and don’t really matter, and we ignore the things that are of the utmost importance. Like the fact that you, me, and every single person on this earth are literally going to die. That’s not me being dramatic—that’s just the truth. It’s the only thing in life we’re guaranteed. And the worst part? We don’t know when it’ll happen.

And here’s the thing—not talking about death? That’s part of the enemy’s plan too. Of course he wants to make it sound “offensive” or morbid. Because if you never talk about death, you’ll never ask what comes after. And if you don’t ask what comes after… you won’t go looking for the truth.

So if that’s the case, don’t you think it’s worth asking: What happens next?

If God is real… that changes everything. God is either everything… or nothing. There’s no in between. So I want you to be honest with yourself. Ask yourself: if God were real, would I be living my life differently?

Hi, I'm Talmida T, and this is The Little Why—where we break down the big 'who, what, and whys’ of God in a little way, through digestible micro-sessions.

And today, we’re talking about something I think most people never slow down long enough to consider:

What if God is actually real?

Quick disclaimer: I’m not a theologian. I’m not a priest. I’m just someone who started asking real questions one day. Not because I was super holy, but because I asked myself that simple question: What if God is real? What would that mean for my life?

And that question took me on a journey to find Him—and oh boy, what a wild ride it’s been. So now I want to walk with you on your journey, my friend. Because even though I don’t know you, I love you. Really. I care about you.

Not because you’re perfect or cool. But because you’re broken, like I was. Stuck in this never-ending cycle of work, bills, and responsibility. Day after day, always tired. Meaningless motions. That ache you feel? That longing in your soul that something is missing? It’s real.

No matter how much you buy, you always want more. That new promotion or car feels good for a minute, but the feeling fades. And the cycle becomes exhausting.

Your soul is longing for something.

That longing is your soul crying out to your Creator—the One who made you in His image and created you to be with Him.

A baby sea turtle crawling toward the ocean at sunrise, with golden light reflecting off the waves and sand.
Like this baby turtle drawn to the ocean, our souls are drawn to something greater.

I like to think of it like this: when baby turtles hatch, they run to the ocean out of instinct. They’ve never seen the ocean, but something in them knows to head toward the water.

Our souls are the same. We’re wired to seek the Source.

Some of us take wrong turns. We end up in a tide pool for a while, maybe to party or just escape. But ultimately, we’re all on that journey across the sand—desperately trying to reach the ocean or die trying. It’s instinct. There's no escape.

And the enemy? He’s real too. And he’s crafty. He distracts us with things that look like the ocean—tide pools with salty water, crabs, starfish. It’s close enough, right?

But it’s not the ocean.

So where are you right now, my friend? Are you in the tide pool? Are you crawling through the sand? Can you see the ocean in the distance? Or are you so far from it you don’t even believe it exists?

Maybe your friends have told you it’s out there, but because you can’t see it, you doubt them. And you’ve decided the tide pool is good enough. It's comfortable, you have everything you need. You have all food you want, friends, I mean why go find the ocean?

First of all—it’s a trick. You think you have everything you need, but if that was true - why are you still listening? Something in you is still longing. Searching. Your instinct knows something is missing. Your instinct knows it's not the ocean. And secondly, eventually at a time we least expect it, that tide pool is going to dry up. And everything in it, including you is going to die.

But those of us who find the ocean, we are fulfilled. Our longing is satisfied. We find true peace, the fulfillment of our instinct. And it is only the ocean waters that protect you from death.

This—this is the most important decision of your life.

You do not get a second chance. And you don’t know when your time’s up. That alone should shake us awake.

If God isn’t real, then none of this matters. Who cares. Do whatever you want. YOLO!

But if He is—then this is the most important journey you’ll ever take.

And let’s be honest: if there’s even a tiny little chance that God is real… don’t you owe it to yourself to look into it? Don’t just go off rumors. Just because you haven’t seen the ocean doesn’t mean it’s not real. And just because the tide pool is where all your friends are—or what someone told you is enough—doesn’t make it the ocean. Look at the evidence yourself. Go find the ocean for yourself. Come to your own decision. Don’t let someone else trick you into staying stuck.

So, my friend—pause. Stop. Cut out the noise. And ask yourself:

What if God is actually real?

How would that simple fact change the way you live your life, the choices you make, the way you see the world?

Now… let’s go on this journey together.

First, let's dig into who God is—and then, we're gonna put Jesus of Nazareth on trial. That’s right, my friend… you’ve got jury duty! See you soon!
